Museum Ottobeuren (competition)

The topic of this competion, in Ottobeuren, was to convert a former storage hall of a brewery into a museum. The design plays with the tension of superimposing the layout of the exhibition concept onto the previous industrial use.

As art is superimposed on the existing structure, the new parts of the museum are overlaid on the vestiges of the brewery without allowing them to completely disappear. Salient parts of the existing building remain visible, like the cantilevering addition at the north side; in other areas the new conceals the old like a skin. A central two storey showroom emphasizes the character of the museum.
